This first post about SIP Trunking is purely an introduction to SIP and designed to give you a basic understanding of how it’s going to help your business.

SIP Trunking, simply stated is Internet Phone Lines.

SIP = Session Initiation Protocol, which means that you only use the Internet when you’re actually on the phone line with a  live call.  To be clear, your phone system (or SIP Appliance) is always connected to the Internet and the SIP Trunk provider, ITSP (Internet Telephony Service Provider).

Your ITSP would replace your current provider, such as Century Link, AT&T, Verizon, Time Warner, or whatever. Our recommended ITSP is Broadvox (for multiple reasons but we’ll save that for a different conversation).
